FIVE YEARS is the first moving-image installation by Abigail Browde and Michael Silverstone (600 HIGHWAYMEN). Drawn from thousands of moving photographs made across rural New York between 2019 and 2024, the work fills four enormous screens with images and sound. Everyday rituals, strange encounters, flashes of astonishing beauty and unease: hands at work, kitchens and parking lots, parades and protests, flags and guns, ice storms, pleasure, rage–all seen side by side at mammoth scale. A child is born. Image after image, the world gets larger, and an America comes into view. The portrait becomes stranger, thornier, harder to resolve. An epic of intimacy. This is a home movie.
